Frič’s name has been associated with courage and adventure. A. V. Frič (1882 Prague—1944 Prague) gained recognition as an explorer of South America, a botanist, ethnographer, writer, journalist, a vigorous polemist — and a photographer. The preserved photographic archive abounds in pictures of exotic products of nature, rare cactuses and above all images of the daily life and festivities of South America’s Indians (Chamacoco, Bororo, Caduveo). After one hundred years, this documentary material has acquired international significance, based on the artist’s ability to grasp the mentality of the indigenous people, while also reflecting his distinctive visual language.
